Make bread interesting…

With the onset of COVID 19, we have all the members of the family confined within homes. Schools are closed and corporate are working from home. We cannot go out anywhere and all vacations are canceled.

“I am feeling bored”

“What will I have for lunch/dinner”

and so on.

These are the most common cribbing in our households now.

This leads to a new challenge of engaging the kids and making food interesting. While I will share some doses on engaging the kids with my posts in parenting and well-being, I will also help you in making the regular cuisine more interesting.

Bread is consumed in different forms across the globe as a staple food.

Change in the  taste of bread can make the whole mealtime interesting.

Here are some ideas which I have tried, and it tastes well:

  1. Baked bread for sandwiches- Instead of plain sandwich bread flavor it any of the below
  • Crushed garlic,
  • Crushed ginger
  • Ground cinnamon
  • Ground cardamom
  • Crushed and dried fenugreek leaves
  • Ground pepper

If you are buying the plain bread, you can mix any of these with plain salted butter, spread on the bread and toast it.

You can also add little sugar, dried fruits, and ground cardamom and make a sweet sandwich with cream and strawberries.

  1. Pita bread and naan- You would have already tried pita bread and naan variants with different stuffing. You can make different flavors of it as well adding any of the below ingredients to the dough-
  • Garlic paste (with chilli flakes if you want it spicy)
  • Cinnamon powder
  • Cumin powder
  • Spinach puree
  • Grated carrot

If you are buying ready to eat pita bread and naan you can top it with

  • Crushed and dried fenugreek leaves
  • Grated cheese
  • Grated carrot or beetroot
  1. Indian bread (Roti, Paratha, Poori)- Normally these Indian bread are made with either all-purpose flour or wheat flour. You can mix a couple of teaspoons either chickpea flour or semolina in the dough. It will make the bread crispy. You can also add flavor to them adding the below to the dough-
  • Spinach puree
  • Beetroot paste
  • Cinnamon powder
  • Grated carrot
  • Fenugreek leaves

Indian bread is also famous for the different types of stuffing used in them. Like,

  • Spicy mashed potatoes
  • Spicy Grated cabbage
  • Spicy Grated cottage cheese
  • Spice Grated cauliflower
  • Spicy mashed green peas

Hope these clues help you.

Enjoy your flavored meal 🙂
